These are the picture links to the cases and cylinders.
Things to take note of:
The Flathead Power Cylinders are the finest there are however
they do
have
special needs. They were not properly hardened. If you just bore them
and
run them, within 3000 miles they will show excessive wear in the ring
area.
The engine will more than likely develop a piston slap noise, or other
knock.
To solve the problem they can be heat treated by someone who knows what
they are doing, or they can also be cryogenicly treated (deep freeze),
or
what I did was to send them to Bore Tech . Bore Tech has a Carbide Process
that combines the best features of ceramics and cast iron cylinder
bores.
They bore the last .001" and impregnate diamond hard silicon carbide
particles into the cast iron bore. This has many advantages including
lower friction and less heat, longer lasting bores, fast ring break-in,
better
oil retention and improved ring seal. This is not hype either. My
cylinders
looked great after 8000 miles (cross hatch was still all there and
looked new).
The engine ran great, it's a true one kicker. I fit the pistons up real
tight also.
My piston to wall clearance is .0025" as compared to the .004" everyone
tells
you to fit them at. I can't say enough good things about there bore
procedure.
Everyone of my personal motors will have this done. Period. It's kind
of pricy
but the pay back is worth every cent. Bores generally last 3 times
longer than normal.
