Kawasaki KLR 650, year model 2000. Mileage 10845. This was my
personal
bike while my flathead was down. This is really a great everyday bike
that
is a lot of fun to own and ride. I have done some custom work to it
adding
the cargo box to the rear of it and eliminating the cheap plastic rack
that
was originally there. The box easily holds two gallon milk jugs and then
some. I also made the fairing turn with the handlebars and rest of the
front end and stuck a nice leather bag in between the instruments and
fairing so you can have a place for paper work, sun glasses etc...It's
much
nicer when the fairing turns with the front end. All work was done very
professionally, nothing butchered or half-assed.
Mechanically this is a sound bike. After riding it home from Houston,
I immediately changed the oil and put Amsoil in it and a fresh oil
filter.
The tires were new when I purchased the bike with 8400 miles on
it, so
they are still in good shape with plenty of life left in them. I also
put a
new UNI filter in place of the stock air filter and wrapped the front
section of the exhaust pipe and dropped the rear sprocket one tooth
for a little better gas mileage. It gets a solid 50 to 55 mpg and has no
problem cruising on the highway at 65 to 75 mph.
