All new for 2009 are custom built "Alien Scopes"!
In my constant search for life beyond the shop and to
have something
other
to do
than just work
on motorcycles, I decided building telescopes would fill the void.
It all started by looking at the moon with a pocket monocular one day.
Then I moved up
to astronomical binoculars, then a 5" store bought scope and then I
decided I still
couldn't see enough! I had ordered a 10" telescope and it never came
in. The
company sent me an email one day saying that the sale was over, so I
told them
"screw you and your order" and ended up buying a $40 dollar book on how
to build
your own. Long story short, 4 months later at 6 minuets after the new
year I was
finally looking at the stars like never before! What a way to start the
new year off!
A few days after that I was looking at the moon at 600 times
magnification!
(at least acording to some calculations I did on the net, I believe it
was correct..)
With the store bought scope, which is a good scope, you look at the
moon and it's
pretty amazing. After looking at the moon a few times with it though,
it's still nice,
but once you've seen the moon, well you've seen the moon. Soon
it's too much of
a hassle to drag the store bought scope out.. and... well...look
at the moon again.
Well I'm happy to say I'm no longer just looking at the moon. I'm
exploring it!
Instead of looking at creaters, you look into creators. Mountains take
on an
amazing 3D effect. The smooth parts are no longer smooth and take on
life.
You'd swear you could find 'Ol Glory up there if you look hard enough.
It's not
just the moon either. Double stars, nebula, Saturn, Juipter,
space ships...OK
just kidding...I haven't seen any space ships yet......I'm trying
though!
My point is It's easily going to be a long time before you get bored
with a telescope
of this size and quality.
